Updated: 3-Step NBI Clearance Procedure and Appointment System! (Philippines)

By Erika Presson, May 18, 2015

The Philippine National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has updated their procedures for acquisition of NBI Clearances in the Philippines. NBI has fully implemented the online registration, electronic payments / over-the-counter (OTC) payments and appointment system for NBI Clearance applicants.

To quote the GMA News Article:

“Applicants can pay the processing fee via online banking; over-the-counter bank payment; over-the-counter non-bank payment like Bayad Center, LBC, and Robinsons Department Stores; ATM and debit cars; and mobile payment systems.”

Walk-in Applicants are also discouraged as noted on the NBI Website:

3-Step NBI Clearance Procedure / Appointment System:

1.) Registration and Payment

All applicants are advised to accomplish the online registration. Walk-in applicants are discouraged at the NBI Clearance Centers / Kiosks. Payments can be done through online banking, over-the-counter payments, and other centers as mentioned above.

2.) On-site Appearance for Photo and Biometrics

This is a required step and cannot be skipped. The applicant will need to show up at an NBI Clearance Center / Kiosk and present the Reference Number (and Receipt) and it will serve as your “pass” to enter the establishment. The applicant’s photo, signature, and fingerprints will be taken/scanned and they will give you further instructions.

3.) NBI Clearance Release / Clearance Printing

Just minutes after they’ve taken the applicant’s photo and biometrics, they will be called to get their NBI Clearance and/or given further instructions to claim it at a later date if there’s a “HIT”*.

*A “Hit” means there could be a namesake that has a pending case with the Department of Justice.

    Thank you!

Good day, Mrs. Presson! I am currently at this point of my visa application. I already have my documents at the US Embassy in Manila (says it’s ready according to the CEAC Status Tracker with my MNL Number). I read at the K1-K2 Applicant Interview Preparation Instructions on the Police Report (NBI Clearance) as quoted: “An official letter of explanation from the NBI is required for any notation of “No criminal record” or “No pending case”.”

Can you please help me out on what this letter of explanation looks like? Oh, and I noticed that my PSA (previously NSO) Birth Certificate entries are a little bit blurry. Should I get a Certified True Copy of my birth certificate from my Local Civil Registrar’s Office then get it authenticated at the PSA just in case?

My fiance and I just got the MNL number this week and everything is happening REALLY fast and it’s overwhelming and oh my goodness do I get all panicky at times. *sigh*

    • Please contact NBI directly for the “Letter of Explanation”.

If you think that it would be better for your case to have an authenticated birth certificate, you can do so. It’s entirely your choice. I always follow the “Better safe, than sorry” mentality.

What do you think?
